OUR MISSION |
The Princess Diya Kumari Foundation has been dedicated to the empowerment of women and girls in rural Rajasthan for almost 10 years. Set up by Princess Diya Kumari, the foundation runs five centres across the state that give women opportunities through advice and education. A key part of the foundation’s programme is promoting traditional crafts, allowing women artisans to gain financial independence by helping market and sell their work to a global audience through the PDKF Store. Creating trendy with traditional, the store’s collection is a contemporary adaptation of long-established Rajasthani patterns. It has been designed by Princess Gauravi Kumari – Princess Diya Kumari’s daughter – and French designer Claire Deroo. The collection uses ancient techniques handed down from artisan to artisan over the centuries to create modern designs. Gotapatti embroidery and fine needlework, along with Rajasthan’s famous block printing, are all taught to the foundation’s women artisans at its centres. The objective of the PDKF Store is simple. Through our work, we hope to give women the resources, skills, and knowledge to help them pave their way to economic and overall empowerment.
